Editing is a must. There was a time in my naive childhood when I thought I could write without editing. I thought words could flow perfectly out of my mind through my fingers and to the paper as beautifully as any of the bound and published books that decorated by parent’s bookshelves.
I have since decided that this is simply not the case nor will it ever be the case. Sure, there are times when words do come naturally and they never see the knife. However, any well-written book has undergone editing to one degree or another.
Editing my first draft of Jamie Morgan is challenging my skill set and my patience. Sometimes “just the right word” is never there and sometimes I can’t even make sense of what I mean to convey.
Writing is an art and art must be handled with the care, caution and the fearlessness of a sea-faring man.
